The Genesis had a lot of gems, but Crusader of Centy stood out from the crowd
Working my way through the Sega Genesis library has been a fun time. There were many underrated games that I never knew were released on the console. One such game is Crusader of Centy, a unique Legend of Zelda clone that has its own style and gameplay.
Crusader of Centy, also known as Shin Souseiki Ragnacënty (Japanese: 新創世記ラグナセンティ, Hepburn: Shin Sōseiki Ragunasenti) in Japan and Soleil in Europe, is an action-adventure game developed by Nextech for the Sega Genesis.
The game was released at the end of the consoles life cycle and so there wasn’t much media coverage or advertising for it. The game had an initial price of $70 when it was new and sold poorly. It wasn’t until the last few years that collectors figured out how great this game was to play.
Luckily, I got my hands on a copy before the frenzy, and I enjoyed the steady gameplay and strong storyline. If you think Crusader of Centy is a Zelda clone and nothing else, you are wrong. This game is unique in every sense of the word.
