Xbox Prices Will Stay The Same, For Now
Phil Spencer spoke about keeping Xbox Series prices where they are, but spending far more on game developers
Sony has turned head recently with the price hike of the PS5 console, but Microsoft is building on this momentum, as Phil Specter stated in an interview earlier this week that Xbox prices will remain the same.
The Xbox head did say he was looking to continue his buying spree of game development studios. What could Microsoft be building with all these new development houses under their umbrella?
The first thing that comes to mind is beefing up the cloud gaming platform, as well as an eventual push to have Xbox on every platform. The idea is not lost on Sony, though, as the drama over Call of Duty continues.
We’re always evaluating our business going forward. I don’t think we can ever say on anything that we will never do something. But when we look at our consoles today, […] Series X and Series S, we think value is incredibly important. We love the position of Series S in the market, which is our lower cost console. Over half of our new players that we’re finding are coming in through Series S. And I can definitely say we have no plans today to raise [the prices] of our consoles […] we don’t think it’s the right move for us at this point to be raising prices on our console. — Kotaku.
During the interview, Specter talked about the competitiveness of the video game market and what we can expect in the future. The fact that we won’t get a price hike is a nice safeguard, though.
Especially with the increased competition that we will see with the likes of the Google Stadia and the Amazon Luna.
